Subject: VME / MCE Error
Hi Everybody,

I've installed VME on my computer but I still cannot get DVD files to
play on my Linksys MCE. The error I receive indicates that either the
files aren't there or that there are invalid characters in the file.

Please advise-

Does the VME allow for playback of DVD files on the MCE?
If so, how?
If it does not, is there another program with which I could get
playback of my DVD files?
If there is no way to get the DVD files to play on my MCE, is there a
media format into which I could convert my DVD which would still allow
use of the DVD menu? I am an American and my wife is German, and we
want to be able to use the options for which language is spoken /
subtitled in the film.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Sorry but VME only supports MPeg4 and not DVDs. What you could do is use mymovies for media centre or convert to MPeg4 with subtitles intact with Dr DivX.

Hi Gary,

Thank you very much for your response. So to clarify, I need to:

-Install Dr. DiVX on my MCE computer and then convert my movie(s) that
are made up of multiple DVD files into one individual MPeg4 file per
movie.
- From my Linksys MCE, open Movie (X) and as before, press i on the
remote for more information, and use the VME to transcode the movie
-The movie will default to the Menu (as if it were a normal DVD) where
I will have the option of choosing the language / subtitles that I
want.

Is this correct?

Thanks again for the help.

V/R,
Eric

Hi,

You can use MyMovies to play DVDs and store DVDs across Media Center and the
Extenders. Or as you correctly stated you can encode the video to DivX or
XVid using either Dr DivX, Vidomi or AnyDVD/CloneDVD. This video file will
only contain the movie and not the menus, but you can also get it to include
subtitle tracks and different languages.

Cheers,

Gary
