This FAQ is designed to answer some of the most common questions users have about Google Maps. If your answer isn't addressed below please search the group archives first before posting your question.  It's likely your issue has already been addressed in the group.

1. Where can I report a map data error?

First, if you're trying to edit or remove a business listing in the US, Australia, or New Zealand, or if the green arrow isn’t pointing to the right place when you perform a search, we recently provided a new way for users to make edits themselves.  For detailed instructions, please visit this Google Maps Help Center page.

Keep in mind that changes made using these instructions can still be edited by other users and may also be reviewed before being applied. Edits verified through the Local Business Center can't be altered by community edits.

2.    3. When will my street appear in Google Maps? Can I add it myself?   

The map data found in Google Maps is comes mainly from  NAVTEQ and TeleAtlas. Similarly, the imagery found in "Satellite" mode is provided by DigitalGlobe and MDA Federal. Right now there’s no way to add a street to the map yourself, but we’re always working with these providers to update our map information as often as possible. We don’t have a timeline of when certain areas will be updated.

4. How come the map I imported on my website is giving the incorrect location when it appears correctly on Google Maps? 

The Google Maps API is an application specifically designed for web developers. As you’ve noticed, there are subtle differences between this version and the desktop version of Google Maps. We’re working to improve their consistency as we develop the API.

4.    5. How can I change an icon in a map I create?

Just click on the icon on the map when you’re in “Edit” mode, and when the information window pops up, click on it again. You’ll see a list of different icons you can use and instructions on adding your own icon.

5.    6. Can I copy or move features in between two different maps I’ve created? How can I save driving directions to a My Map?
