A JUDGE KILLING HIS SON-IN-LAW.

A fatal dispute has taken place between JUDGE JOSEPH DOBBS and his son-in-law, BUDD GOSSETT, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The latter was married to the daughter of the judge, from whom, however, he had been separated for several months in consequence of his dissipated habits.

The other morning he accidentally met his wife in the streets, and grossly insulted her, whereupon the judge went in search of his son-in-law for the purpose of extracting frm him a promise not to molest his wife in  he future.

GOSSETT was very abusive, and finally attempted to pull out a pistol, whereupon the judge himself drew his revolver and killed GOSSETT.

In that context "dissipated habits" means someone of low moral standards. For instance, he may have been any or all of the following; a philanderer, drunkard, gambler, thief, bully, etc., etc.

Thanks Geo....an unusual way of describing someone though.  Today we would
say he was a rotter or a bum or ....(worse).
