Someone in my service is looking to organise a family day for reading and they'd like to include a couple of short bits on Manga and Graphic Novels. I was hoping that some of you might be able to recommend some people for this.
Andrew Whelan at TokyoPop did a Manga Recon at the Central Lending
library in Leicester earlier this year. Other than some refreshments,
there was no cost to us, & it attracted 100 people (mainly mid-teens-
early 20's). The event lasted approx 2 hours, & I would highly
recommend it.

What did the young people get to do as part of the workshop and how did
you book this guy? I'm still hoping to con my boss into letting me do
some kind of Manga art drawing thing and I'm wondering if I could do
this instead or with something like that.
Best wishes

You can contact Andrew at andr...@tokyopop.com and ask him about a ReCon, they are free and all you need is a guaranteed audience and a decent collection of Manga titles (preferably Tokyopop or Viz) in the Library.
All the best

If I were being cynical I'd say it's a way for Tokyo Pop (& Nintendo)
to promote their products (which it is). BUT, if you're a Manga
enthusiast it's a great way to find out about new & upcoming titles,
play on a Nintendo Wii, dress up as your favourite character, meet
like-minded people, & see what a great collection of Manga & Anime
your library has(?). There was a Manga quiz led by Andrew, & he also
judged the Cos-Play (fancy dress), & art competition (through our
promotion, leading up to the event, we'd encouraged people to come
dressed up and/or bring examples of their Manga artwork). Prizes were
generous too, with some freebies (posters etc) for those attending. We
also arranged for Waterstones to sell Manga titles at the event. And
as I said on my previous post, Andrew didn't charge us a penny, & you
can't argue with that!
