Around this time a lot of the houses ran a little line in tea and
cakes for Sunday afternoon picnicers who got off the tram at Wilpshire
and walked down to Copster Green. There was a shop at what is now
known as Copster House (which matches the description you give) which

Thanks for that, I believe Old Balshaw lived at Pennine Cottage. There
was some info I read in the Salesbury Millennium book that was
produced locally. If you've any info on that property I'd really
appreciate it as it may answer some questions I have.

Hi Diane,
I'm too young to remember this, but interestingly I do know a local
family who's surname is Paul.
The school you refer to is Salesbury CE Primary School (previously
known as St. Peters Salesbury) where myself and my brothers, and all
our children attend/attended.
I'm not sure which Hawthorn Cottage is (if it's still called that),

I have now learnt that the house we lived in when we were evacuated to Copster Green in the 1940s was called Hawthorn Bungalow. It was on the main road. The owner of the house lived next door and had a wooden Gypsy style caravan in his path. My sisters, Annice and Sonia Paul and cousin Sonia Erstling went to a school at the top of a hill, opposite the church. They were aged about 9, 7 and 5. I was a baby and don't remember any of it. Annice was friendly with Dorothy Whalley who lived on Whalley Road. Anyone with memories please let me know more.

My family and cousins were evacuated to Copster Green from Manchester during the war. Some of the children were at school there. Does anyone remember adults or children with the surnames Paul or Erstling from that time? I was a baby there and remember nothing about it.

Hi Maggy when i was doing a little bit of research on William
Hayhurst, alias "Old Balshaw" of Copster Green, nr. Blackburn. Died
February 4th, 1881 aged 105 years (bored one winter evening) i found
that he was in a poor house on the green and there where a few in the
house i think 5-6 i could only think there was one building big

(1800's and early 1900's), in particular of Penine Cottage, Castle
Cottage and Windy Harbour?
We are trying to learn a little of the history of the buildings.

I am so sorry to see that the web cam is longer functional due to the
opwners leaving the area. I am an ex Boltonian, who lived in Burnley

I would just like to say thank you to who ever paid for the repairs to
the track. They have spent alot of money on limestone 1 inch stone
chips and had them laid and rolled.

Just to let you all know google maps has been incorporated in to
copstergreen.co.uk ,there is now a live weather station on the green
and also did you know that the cream of the north west came from lovely
hall farm? We would be grateful if you could take time to reread the
website and piont out any spelling or grammer mistakes you notice.

Daffodils

Bit late now as they are all dying off, but thanks to the people at
Lovely Hall for the marvellous display of daffodils on Lovely Hall Lane
by the entrance to the Hall. Thanks also to the Rainbows & Brownies of
St Peter's Church for the daffs they planted down the new path.
