Dates: 14th - 18th April 2006,
Show: "TAOUB" (UK debut)
Venue: South Bank Centre, London

Description: Taoub is a thrilling display of Moroccan street theatre,
mesmerising acrobatics and magical scenes. Hold your breath as the
acrobats topple along the Tangier skyline or fly through the air in
acts that defy gravity. A seemingly endless sheet of fabric, which
gives the show its name, morphs from bellowing backdrop to lavish

SilkRoad Tour 2006

Everyone is talking about China, the most successful country in Asia
and everyone is talking about Ireland, the most successful country in
Europe, so bringing the two nations together culturally seems entirely
natural considering their shared interest in tradition, heritage and
National pride.

This year Tom Duffy's "Irelands Premier Circus" takes us on a
special journey by presenting artists from the Chinese National Circus
alongside the best of European circus in a combined spectacular named
after the famous trade route between the East and West:

SilkRoad

Duffy's Circus has a 200 year old tradition. It all started when
Patrick James Duffy, a shoemaker from Dublin who loved the circus, left
his workshop to become a famous acrobat. His son John soon founded his
first circus. The following generation of the great Duffy family
brought the circus to where it is today.

During the lifetime of Tom Duffy the circus has grown into one of
Europe's finest and most respected shows, the first to introduce a
four pole big top to Ireland they have always been innovative in both
their thinking and performance planning. Action packed performances
featuring international circus stars, award winning clowns, wild and
exotic animals and the very best of circus entertainment have resulted
in the their motto "Circus as it should be".

Each artiste from the Chinese National Circus coming to join Tom
Duffy's Circus will effectively be a cultural ambassador for their
Nation. For the last twenty five years artists and shows from the far
east have been fascinating and charming audiences throughout the
western world and performances of the Chinese National Circus
consistently play to full houses, receiving standing ovations and
impressing critics everywhere.

Over six million people throughout Europe have been amazed by the pure
talent of these perfect top class acrobats, performing unbelievable
feats with grace, style and precision. The exceptional achievements of
these artists can be explained by the 2000 year old tradition of
acrobats in China. This has always played a very important role within
the field of high culture and the perfect domination of the body is
part of the cultural studies. The aim of every young Chinese artist is
the complete symbiosis of the body, the mind and the soul following
ancient Asian Philosophy.

Combining the two traditions we have now developed a programme of rare
quality:

A traditional state of the art circus meeting the spectacular artistic
and exotic attraction of a high foreign culture.

In Short:
The best from IRELAND greeting the best from CHINA.

This is a programme from young and old, for the curious kids and the
young grown ups.
